The People’s Network for Land & Liberation (PNLL) is a BIPOC-led Consortium consisting of Community Movement Builders Cooperation Jackson, Cooperation Vermont Incite Focus Native Roots Network, and Wellspring Cooperative,
We are partnering with Full Spectrum Capital Partners and Resource Generation to raise $5 million to purchase Goddard College in Vermont and convert it into a Just Transition Campus as a community-owned space of transformational learning, experimentation and community resilience.
Cooperation Vermont purchased The Marshfield Village Store in 2022 and has already converted the business into a profitable worker-owned cooperative. The second story is being used as affordable workforce housing and the third story is being developed for additional units. This asset is owned outright and unencumbered by debt. We also have a 10 acre organic farmstead in an Elder Landsharing Project where elders are bringing their land into our Community Land Trust.
Goddard College has announced it is closing and will be sold. It was most recently appraised at $3.4 million.
Our development plan includes converting dormitories into affordable housing, continue the leases with several important community institutions that will otherwise have no place to go:
Maple Hill School
Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism
WGDR Central Vermont Radio and
Goddard Cafe (which will be reorganized as a worker owned cooperative with the support of CVT)
The Just Transition Campus will invite Central Vermont organizations to join us to weave a tapestry of community resilience and relocalization. This would include a collaborating agroecology school, agroforestry project, a day care coop, a senior living facility and more.
Cooperation Vermont will create a Community Production Center with a green fabrication lab, woodworking, metal working, to re-localize production and build affordable housing both on campus and throughout the state. We envision a thriving, living, learning and workplace where art and culture are centered and community is co-created. We will serve as a model and inspiration for other communities and assist them in replicating our success.
As of May 15 we have raised $1.1 Million. We would love to explore the opportunity for our representatives to build a collaborative partnership with you to support this historic effort. We are seeking philanthropic gifts and impact investors willing to accept 0-3% interest over a 20 year payout.
